I imagine that discovering one new species of animal would be a relatively big deal, but 200? Evidently over 200 new species of frogs have been discovered in Madagascar, suggesting that the island is even more of a sanctuary for various animals than previously thought.
This, of course, has not stopped the Madagascar government from allowing huge swaths of forest to be clear-cut from the jungles where these animals live.
These frogs probably don't make great pets, but it's still pretty incredible that scientists are still discovering so many new species of any animal at one time.
That is so cool. I love hearing about new species. Madagascar has some great critters like lemurs and I think tarsiers. (Bush babies.)
There is so much in this world that we have yet to discover. I wonder how much plant and animal life has been wiped out already by deforestation? Madagascar is one place that I would LOVE to go visit -- so much diversity on that island!
