Default How can we humans do this to tiny K9 friends!!! :-(((

My fellow dog lovers, I am sure you all love your pets just like I do. However, it makes me sick to the stomach if you havent' watched Lisa Ling's piece on "the Hidden World of Puppy Mills", here are some quick links to the piece:

Some dogs have over 100 puppies and are strickened with cancer, while others when rescued didn't know how to walk since they were kept in tiny cages where they were unable to stand up.

I am ashamed as a fellow human species, how can some of us stoop this low to other animal species on this planet? They have every right to enjoy life just like us humans... SIGH!!

The videos really make me want to cry. What a shame! No doubt about it. I cannot imagine someone is still doing something like this. Poor puppies. I wish every pet lover can give a hand and make the world a better place to live not only for humans, but for all animals as well.

Puppy mills... another good reason to adopt/rescue.

And we have to boycott stores that sell puppies. But what do you say when a friend buys a puppy at a store? (My close friends wouldn't, but co-workers have.)

I don't know if you should say anything, really. I always think pet adoption is such a hot topic, and while I have my own opinions @ adoption v. other methods of procuring the animals, it's ultimately up to the person, and I think sometimes people get too defensive or angry at someone for their decisions. Personally, I would just suggest that next time they decide to adopt a pet, check the local shelters or rescues first. Though then again, I also have this discussion about human adoption v. biological children, since I myself am adopted. That conversation, however, usually doesn't go over so well

Yeah, that's a good idea. Think of all animal acquisitions as adoptions, and then adoption will lose the stigma it has now.

Has any one heard about Amish puppy mills? Is it true?

I couldn't watch it.. I'm feeling a bit down right now so I didn't want to get any more depressed at the moment.

But I've read other stuff and seen things about puppy mills on TV and it is definitely sad. It's like you don't want to support the puppy mills by buying pets from pet stores, but you also want to help them and bring them home with you. It can be very easy to get torn between the two...
