Default Arthropod Pets

I have a spirobola millipede that I collected from a cave last May. It's been happily living in an abandoned hermit crab cage with a damp paper towel and an occasional piece of cat food. It's amazing how adapted cave organisms are to living in low energy environments (cave=dark=no photosynthesis=no primary production). This little guy has gone for up to TWO MONTHS with no food or water source (in captivity).

I'm amazed by arthropod pets. Share your millipede, centipede, scorpion, tarantula and other stories here-I want to know!

Default Millicent

This is what mine looks like. I took it to the office and it has become the office mascot. Our office manager named "her" millicent, and everyone is taking care of her now.

Default I Would Not Keep This Animal

This is a Scolopendra, also called a Giant Red Headed centipede. We see them in caves quite a bit, they scare the stuffing out of me. I've heard that their venom is as bad as a rattlesnake's (which we also see a lot of in caves) but I don't feel compelled to test that.

I know people that have kept these as pets. I call them "crazy."
