Question Cats Acting Out

So I have been cat-sitting for a friend this week while she is away on vacation. Her cats seem to be mad that she is away, and as an act of rebellion they have started pooping on the floor, just outside of the litter box.

I know this is fairly common behavior for cats when they are upset - does anyone know why? And does anyone have any tricks on how to stop or curb this rebellious action?

Default Better That It's Poop & Not Pee

Although it's still an issue, it's probably better that the cat is pooping outside of the litter box rather than peeing on the carpet. One suggestion I have for you is to make sure that the litter box is cleaned out well. Maybe you're not cleaning it as well as its owner? If that doesn't work, I'd at least put a plastic mat down and try to monitor the cat. The cat might not behave badly if you're supervising. Good luck!
